Full-scale bandh today - Tamil Nadu almost normal and unaffected

The All India Congress Party had announced a full-scale bandh (protest) today (Monday, 10th September) throughout the country.

The same call has been given by the left parties as well. However, several opposition parties supported this. Accordingly, the full-scale protest is in progress today.

The Auto Workers’ Associations had also announced that around 2.50 Lakhs autos throughout the state will not operate today.

At the same time, the state government of Tamil Nadu has announced that the state transport corporation buses will operate as usual today. It has been decided to deploy temporary workers and Anna Workers’ Union members to operate the buses.

Keeping the public consideration and their required facilities, the transport officials informed the buses will be operated in full scale and arrangements have been made accordingly.

The state government has also announced that all the schools, colleges, and the offices of the state and the central government will function as usual. Further, Quarterly examinations commence today for the 10th, 11th, and 12th  Standard students.

Meanwhile, the secretary of the lorry owners’ association has informed that 4.50 Lakhs lorries will not operate today in support of the bandh today.

As far as Chennai city is concerned heavy police protection has been arranged in 38 depots in order to ensure that the government buses are operated smoothly. The buses are operated based on the workers who have reported for duty. Police staff has been deployed in all the public-gathering places such as Koyambedu Bus Terminus, Broadway Bus Terminus, Railway Station, vegetable markets, and trading centres.

Around 20000 police have been deployed for the safety purpose in Chennai city alone.

Milk booths, pharmacies (medical shops), and petrol bunks have been exempted from participating in this strike. So, it has been informed that all the medical shops, milk booths, and petrol bunks will operate as usual today.
