In spite of the ease of getting food delivered at your doorsteps with a few simple taps on your smartphone, the Dabbawalas of Mumbai are atop even today.
 
L. Deva has launched Chennai Dabbawala during the first week of October. Mr. Deva who does not have any knowledge or exposure about Dabbawalas in Mumbai, and the proprietor of Chennai Dabbawala doesn’t find it shortcoming to launch food box delivery in Chennai.
 
He is a computer science graduate and has experience in courier service in Guindy. He identifies food delivery as a slight extension of the same. The ultimate motto of Chennai Dabbawala is to deliver on time, every time.
 
Business promotions are made using social media like Facebook and word of mouth of the courier clients, says Mr. Deva. There are a number of clients including north Indians who particularly choose to opt for home cooked foods that are delivered fresh and fast.
 
The lunch box delivery rate is Rs 600 for the first three months, and Rs 700 for 3 to 6 km and Rs 900 for 6 to 9 km.
 
From cab to food
With UberEATS, the taxi-aggregator Uber has jumped into the bandwagon of food delivery. It was on Friday that the exclusive mobile app for food delivery was launched. For this UberEATS has joined hands with over 200 restaurants including Aasife Briyani, Cream Store, Fruit Shop on Greams Road, A2B, and so on.
 
Speaking about this, the head of UberEATS, Bhavik Rathod said the service is launched in Chennai within 5 months of launching its food delivery operations across India. As an initiative to pitch in during this festive season, FestiveEATS is brought in where customers can order foods n UberEATS app. It will have exclusive offers and the delivery fee of Re 1 as an introductory offer. The FestiveEATS service was launched on 14th October.
