Deadline for filing IT return extended up to 5th August

The Income Tax Department has announced that the last date for filing Income Tax Return has been extended up to 5th August.
IT department had earlier announced that the last date for filing Income Tax Returns for the financial year 2016-17 to be 31st July (today – Monday). It had gone to the extent of announcing further that this will not be extended by any chance. Because of this, over 2 crore taxpayers had filed their IT returns online.
It has been made mandatory that PAN card must be linked to Aadhar card for filing IT returns from 1st July. So, most of the taxpayers have been filing IT returns online.
Because of the additional burdens during the last stages, IT department has declared that the last date for filing the IT returns has been extended until 5th August.
