Steep fall in tomato prices from Rs. 100 per kg to Rs. 60 per kg

As there has been an increase in the quantity of tomatoes arriving at the Chennai Koyambedu vegetable market, the price of tomato has been falling down gradually.
Last week, the tomato was sold at Rs. 100 per kg. Some shops even sold at Rs. 120 per kg. In Tamil Nadu, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri as the districts where tomato is grown in large quantities. Pochampalli is the place where there is the maximum harvest of tomatoes.
It may be recalled that the tomato dealers threw the tomatoes in the garbage as they did not get the right price. Many farmers gave up growing tomatoes. Because of this, there was a shortage of tomatoes leading to a steep increase in price.
However, the farmers from Krishnagiri, Pochampalli, and Dharmapuri have resumed harvesting tomato again. The harvest has been good this season. So, more trucks carrying tomatoes have started arriving in Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market. This has led to a sudden fall in tomato price.
As on today, the tomato is being sold at Rs. 60 per kg in the wholesale market. The retailers sell at Rs. 70 to Rs. 80 per kg.
A tomato trader informed that as more trucks carrying tomato will arrive from Pochampally, the price of tomato will reduce further As more stock is expected from the states of Andhra and Karnataka. There will be a steep fall in tomato price.
