With the advent of the Tamil calendar month Aadi, there are no auspicious days for conducting weddings. This has led to the fall in the vegetable prices at the wholesale vegetable market in Koyambedu.

In the last 1 month, the prices of vegetables were on the rising trend. In the other open market, the tomato was sold at Rs. 100 per kg and the small (sambar) onions were sold at Rs. 120 per kg. The beans was sold at Rs. 70 per kg.

In a recent trend, the prices of the vegetables have started falling. Tomato, which was sold at Rs. 80 per kg, was sold at Rs. 70 per kg. Beans price has come down from Rs. 60 per kg to Rs. 50 per kg. Brinjal price was down from Rs. 30 per kg to Rs. 25 per kg. The price of drumstick has also come down from Rs. 55 per kg to Rs. 45 per kg.  The broad beans price has come down from Rs. 40 per kg to Rs. 35 per kg.

In this regard, the secretary of the Koyambedu vegetables, and flower traders association, S.S. Muthukumar explained that the wedding days have come to an end. The weddings will not be conducted during this month recently started. So, with the demand coming down, the prices of the vegetables have come down.

However, there are prospects of the vegetable prices going up again once Aadi month is over.
