Royal Enfield slashes down bike models in India after GST

After GST implementation on 1st July, rates of Royal Enfield models in India are substantially reduced. Royal Enfield has a range of offerings including its 350 cc and above 350 cc engine types. The price cut in Royal Enfield motorcycles is of the range of Rs 1,600 to Rs 2,300. This change is however variant from one state to the other.
Bikes that come with lesser than 350 cc engines have got their rates reduced after implementation of GST. At the same time, bikes with above 350 cc engine have got increase in rate. Coming on to Royal Enfield, there are Thunderbird, Classic, and Bullet range in the Indian market. This comes with purpose-built motorcycle, the Himalayan. As of now, Himalayan bike sale is put on hold. It is likely that the company would launch an updated BS-IV version.
As per the GST, 28 percent tax is applicable for 2-wheelers. This is lesser than the earlier tax rate of 30 percent. At the same time, bikes that come with more than 350 cc engine have seen an uptick in tax by 3 percent.
