Radio frequency transmitter in MTC buses to help the blind

Posted on: 11/Mar/2017 5:31:13 PM
Radio frequency transmitters are fitted in 75 buses traveling on 10 routes. This move by the metropolitan transport corporation is made to help the visually challenged.

The madras high court intervened in this regard following which the action is taken to help the blind in being aware of bus arrival timing.

In his note about this, one of the senior MTC officers said the facility is available in the following 10 routes
  • 54 Poonamallee - Broadway
  • E18 Broadway - Guduvanchery
  • 25G Poonamallee - Anna Square
  • 45B Guindy Industrial Estate - Anna Square
  • 21E Nandambakkam - Broadway
  • 21E Extension - Defence Colony-Broadway
  • 23C Ayanavaram - Besant Nagar
  • 47D Thiruvanmiyur - Ambattur OT
  • 56D Broadway - Ennore
  • D70 Velachery -Ambattur Industrial Estate
These buses having transmitters will have the frequency of 10 to 15 minutes. Hence, the visually challenged people will be self-dependent without wanting to seek help from others regarding bus arrival or others.

The visually challenged association has handpicked these routes of buses where the transmitters need to be fixed. At the same time, measures are taken to ensure prompt arrival of buses by advising depot managers to abide by scheduled timings. If the bus using transmitter develops a snag, the transmitter should immediately be transferred to another spare bus and the depot should be informed about this immediately.
