Posted on: 04/Mar/2017 12:04:32 PM
Aiming to provide quick diagnosis and treatment to those hit by stroke, the Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital has launched a Mobile Stroke Unit on Friday. This will provide stroke care at one’s door step during the 3-hour crucial window period.

In this fully equipped mobile unit, it is possible to perform a computer tomography and start with treatment immediately.

Nalla G. Palanisamy, the chairman of KMCH said that introducing these cutting edge technologies will create great influence in the country where there are over a million people hit by stroke annually.

Most population of these stroke patients continue being paralyzed and they die of secondary infections and bedsores.

Across the world, stroke therapy has always been challenging. The first line treatment with clot buster drug that should be given within the specific time period is where the challenge lies. A blood clot in brain or blood vessel or bleeding blood vessel may be the reason for stroke.

The drug is prescribed for the patient only in case of such clot. When there is bleeding, the drug may worsen the condition. Hence, at such circumstance, a CT scan is mandatory to identify the stroke cause for deciding on what treatment must be given. It is at such times that the mobile unit saves time.
