What you need to know about make up foundation

Foundation is essential for good make up. But which one is good? The market is saturated with varieties that boggle the mind. Choosing a good foundation depends, broadly, on three things: the type of your skin, your skin tone and the type of foundation. Lets take a closer look at the options.
First and foremost, you need to understand your skin. Here are the skin types. If you have even complexion and the surface of your skin is not too oily or too dry, you have normal skin type. Lotion based foundations are best for you. On the other hand, if you have a shiny face and are prone to acne you have oily skin. Water based foundations are best suited for you. You may have skin that feels parched and dry at times. Cream based foundations are best for dry skin.
After identifying your skin type, look for products to suit your skin tone. Lets look at skin tones now. If you are dusky, you will need a sheer foundation. A good concealer will block out any spots, if any. Cover your face with light layer of foundation, add a drop of water to the foundation. This will help blend well. Once done, dab compact - not too much though. Dab off any excess.
If you have wheatish complexion, your foundation and concealer should have yellow pigments. Choose earthy shades that are closest to your skin tone. Do not use foundation that has pinkish tones and don`t forget to dab compact powder after the foundation. Fair complexion can be rosy pink or yellowish. Once you identify your skin tone, choose warmer tones that will enable you to have even complexion.

Cream foundations are suitable for women who have an uneven pigmentation. This can be for all types of skin. Creamy foundation has a dewy finish and helps conceal discolourations and imperfections. Liquid foundations, again suitable for all skin types, helps to accomplish light to medium coverage. Depending on its formulation, it will have a satin, matte or dewy finish. For those who have oily skin, pressed powder foundation is advisable. This will lend a matte finish to the skin. Pressed powder foundation should be applied with a powder brush, whose bristles should be dense. Mineral foundation is ideal for all skin types, with the exception of oily. It is best suite for those who have sensitive skin or suffer from Rosacea. The last, tinted moisturising foundation, is best suited for normal and dry skin, that needs extra hydration.
While applying foundation (any kind), aim for minimal application. Sample the product under natural light to match your skin tone. Test it on your jawline - this will give a seamless blend.
