TN generates maximum employment, report

According to an analysis done by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), it is found that Tamil Nadu stands top among all states in generating maximum employment in the country. TN generates about 15.2 percent of the total jobs in the country with the manufacturing sector during 2012-13.
This analysis involved 20 states among which a positive growth was observed in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, and other states showed significant decline, says report by Assocham. The report released was that of couple of years back. However, according to industry experts, Tamil Nadu seem to be doing good with the manufacturing sector. Nevertheless, there prevails shortage of workers in select sectors even today.
Among these is the textile sector which has led to hiring workers from Bihar and Orissa, says A Sakthivel, president, Tirupur Exporters Association. There was an employment generation growth in Tami Nadu by 1.2 percent in the year 2011-12. There is a 0.2 percent growth in employment generation in West Bengal.
In Maharashtra, there was 13.8 percent growth which was 10.5 with Gujarat as of 2012-13. Both these states, with these levels of growth, stood behind Tamil Nadu.
The report also points that a negative employment growth was observed in sectors such as textile, food products, basic metals, chemicals and chemical products. Coming on to the manufacturing sector, an upswing in performance is seen in 2014-15. However, there has been an unsustainable growth with the manufacturing sector in India. There is a stagnant national economy.
The employment generation in manufacturing sector in the year 2012-13 came down to 12.95 million which was 13.4 million in 2011-12. This accounts to a difference of 3.6 percent.
Some of the measures as suggested by Assocham to help the manufacturing sector get back on track with excellent growth are:
· Implementation of Goods and Services Tax
· Co-ordination between different government departments
· Centre-State co-ordination for fast-tracking clearances
· Infrastructure development
Negative employment growth was also seen in sectors including chemical products, chemicals, basic metals, food products, textiles, etc.
