Shocking!! Parking lot at the MRTS stations in Chennai causing worries for many commuters!!
The absence of a parking contractor at the southern side of Mass Rapid Transit System or MRTS station at Velachery has been a cause for concern for many commuters now. Point is that the commuters are worried about the safety of their vehicles in this station. Every day, this station witnesses a footfall of about 75000.
It is well known to us that Velachery MRTS station is used by many commuters from suburban localities like Madipakkam, Pallikaranai and Nanganallur etc. It was mentioned by a resident from Madipakkam that normally the parking lots would be used to park more than thousands of vehicles, especially two wheelers. He added that in the last month the vehicle owners were worried due to the lack of security. The Southern Railways or SR failing to renew parking contracts has become an important issue.
It is the same problem at the MRTS station at Chintadripet also and many regular commuters expressed their unhappiness about the absence of security.
According to a senior official from SR the tender for a parking contract for both the Chintadripet and Velachery stations have been floated. He hinted that soon contracts would be awarded.
