The central government has introduced stricter rules for domestic cooking gas usage under its “One Household, One Gas Connection” policy, aiming to promote the use of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) across the country.

Authorities are currently identifying households that are using both LPG cylinders and PNG connections simultaneously. Under the new guidelines issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, households with an active PNG connection may no longer be eligible for new LPG connections or cylinder refills.

The move is intended to:

- Prevent misuse and black marketing of LPG cylinders

- Ensure fair distribution of cooking gas

- Encourage cleaner and more efficient PNG usage

As part of the policy rollout, the government has directed city gas companies to accelerate PNG expansion in residential and commercial areas. Businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and canteens are also being encouraged to switch to PNG.

According to the latest guidelines, households that fail to shift to PNG despite availability in their area could see their LPG supply discontinued by the end of June 2026.
