LPG Cylinder Delivery Now Requires OTP Verification Across India
LPG cylinder delivery across India has now become more secure, with OTP (One-Time Password) verification made mandatory from today. Oil companies have instructed delivery personnel to hand over cylinders only after verifying the OTP shared with the registered customer.
Under the new system, customers will receive an OTP on their registered mobile number at the time of delivery. The cylinder will be handed over only after the OTP is successfully verified, ensuring that the delivery reaches the correct customer.
This move has been implemented to prevent unauthorized distribution, theft, and black market sales of LPG cylinders. The OTP-based system was already in use across most regions, covering nearly 94% of deliveries, and has now been expanded to 100% nationwide implementation.
The decision comes amid recent supply challenges caused by global disruptions, which led to delays and shortages in some areas. While commercial LPG cylinder distribution faced interruptions earlier, domestic cylinder supply continues without major restrictions, though some delays have been reported in select locations.
To regulate demand, LPG booking intervals have been fixed at 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas. Authorities are taking additional steps to ensure timely delivery and fair distribution.
Officials stated that the OTP system will improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in LPG distribution. It ensures that cylinders are delivered only to genuine customers and reduces the chances of misuse.
Customers are advised to keep their registered mobile phones accessible during delivery and share the OTP only with authorized delivery personnel. Cylinders will not be delivered without OTP verification under the new rule.
