Heavy Rain Forecast for 5 Tamil Nadu Districts Today, Chennai May Cross 100°F
The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rainfall in five districts of Tamil Nadu today (May 20) due to prevailing atmospheric conditions over South India.
Several parts of Chennai and Puducherry received pleasant evening showers on Tuesday, bringing relief from the scorching summer heat.
According to the weather department, heavy rain is likely to occur in:
- Nilgiris
- Coimbatore
- Theni
- Erode
- Dindigul
The weather office stated that an upper air cyclonic circulation is prevailing over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas. In addition, a trough extends from the Lakshadweep region to south coastal Andhra Pradesh, influencing weather conditions across Tamil Nadu.
In Chennai, several areas including Nungambakkam, Kodambakkam, Vadapalani, Koyambedu and Saidapet witnessed rainfall on Tuesday evening after intense daytime heat.
The RMC has also predicted partly cloudy skies over Chennai today, with chances of light rain in some areas. However, the maximum temperature in the city is expected to cross 100°F.
