Graduate Medical Courses MBBS and BDS: ONLINE Counselling for admission from tomorrow!

The Department of Public Welfare of Tamil Nadu had announced that applications can be submitted ONLINE for admission to the graduate medical courses of MBBS & BDS from 22nd September.

Direct Counselling is scheduled to be conducted for the Special cadre candidates and the 7.5% quota candidates and Counselling will be done ONLINE for the candidates from the general or common cade!

There are 37 government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu with 5050 seats for MBBS and 2 government colleges for BDS with 200 seats. Out of these, 15% is allotted for the All India Quota. The balance seats are with the State Government.

There are 20 private medical colleges with 3050 seats for MBBS and 20 private colleges for BDS with 1960 seats. Out of these, 1610 seats for MBBS and 1254 seats for BDS are for the State Government.

The remaining seats will be the administration quota.

The Directorate of Medical Education conducts the counselling for the seats for the graduate medical courses for the government and private colleges allotted seats and the administration quota of the private colleges.

For the academic year 2022-23, admission for the graduate medical courses ONLINE is set to commence on 22nd September and conclude on 3rd October.

The students who have passed NEET can apply ONLINE. Websites: www.,tnhealth.tn,gov,in OR www.tnmedicalselection.org Note that separate applications have to be made for applying for government quota and administration quota. As regards other information such as colleges, fees, procedures for ONLINE application, etc., refer to the compilation of information released on the internet!

Note that the counselling for admission to the graduate medical courses of MBBS and BDS is exclusively based on the performance in NEET! In this year`s NEET (National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test), 67787 candidates have passed NEET out of 132167 candidates who wrote NEET (51.30%).

For the General Cadre candidates, a minimum of 117 marks is to be scored out of 720. And for the SC, ST, BC, and MBC candidates, those who scored over 93 out of 720 have been declared as passed!

7.5% quota: For the 3rd successive year, a quota of 7.5% seats has been allotted for the students who studied in government schools. For this year, under this 7.5% quota, 325 seats are available from 37 government medical colleges, 130 MBBS seats available from 20 private medical colleges, 13 BDS seats from 2 government Dental colleges, 101 BDS seats from 28 private dental colleges are available for a total of 569 seats.

The government school studedents MUST attach the relevant certificate with the ONLINE application to avail of the special 7.5% quota. Another important point to note is that over 2500 government high school students have passed NEET!

In this regard, the Secretary of the Medical Education Selection Council, Dr Muthuchelvan shared:

"Application received will be scrutinized and then, the merit list will be released. After this, counselling will commence!  Counselling will be direct for the cadres of differently-abled, heirs of ex-military personnel, sports specialists, and the 7.5% quota for the government high school students.

For the candidates who belong to the general or common cadre, counselling will be conducted ONLINE!"
