The private school students who would be appearing for the board exams have been asked to attend classes in their schools even during the government holidays in Chennai. This has not gone down well with the parents now. There were many complaints from the parents regarding the school kids being forced to attend classes even during the government holidays.

It is well known that the TN government has given 14th April as well as 15th April as holidays due to Tamil New Year and Vishu/Good Friday etc. It was later revealed by a senior officer belonging to the school education department that there were many complaints from the parents that their wards (who were to appear for board exams) were called to attend special classes since 14th April.

The senior officer later added that the parents have sent their kids to native places due to long holidays and it was not possible for the students to attend classes at this point of time.

It must be taken into account that all the complaints received from the parents have been sent to the Directorate of Matriculation Schools. Through the district education officers, a circular has been sent to all the private schools in Chennai and in TN and strict action would be taken against the managements of the schools if they conduct special classes especially during government holidays. The private schools would be monitored closely by various district education officers.

There are some private schools that conduct special classes for the students on the weekdays also for the sake of boosting their board exam results.

Many southern states have already declared holidays on Saturdays for the students because of the summer season. This was as per Mr. P.K. Illamaran, president of TN Teachers Association. He added that the TN government must also consider providing a holiday on Saturday for the students.
