Election Silence Period Rules in Tamil Nadu - Full List of Restrictions After Campaign Ends

Following the end of election campaigning, strict regulations come into force across Tamil Nadu as per the Election Commission of India. The silence period begins from 6 PM on April 21, 2026, and continues until the completion of polling.

Key Restrictions During Silence Period:
- Public meetings, rallies, and political gatherings are strictly prohibited

- Entertainment events such as music shows or public programs aimed at influencing voters are not allowed

- Campaigning through TV, radio, WhatsApp, Facebook, X (Twitter), SMS, and internet platforms is banned

- Candidates are not allowed to transport voters using their own vehicles

- Political workers from outside constituencies must leave before the deadline

- Monitoring will be conducted in lodges, guest houses, and public places

- Violating these rules can lead to up to 2 years imprisonment, fines, or both under election laws.

Vehicle Rules on Polling Day:

Each candidate is allowed only three vehicles:

- One for the candidate’s personal use
- One for the election agent
- One for party workers or authorized personnel

Additionally, only minimal setup is allowed near polling booths, and no campaign offices can operate within restricted zones.

These measures aim to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election process, preventing undue influence on voters during the crucial final hours.
