Victoria Public Hall Set to Reopen as Cultural Hub

After nearly 16 years of closure, the iconic Victoria Public Hall in Chennai is ready to welcome the public again following a government-led renovation under the Singara Chennai 2.0 initiative. Built in 1883, the historic hall has been a landmark venue for political meetings, cultural performances, and public debates for over a century.

The reopening will be marked by a curated series of musical events on February 7 and 8, launching the space’s transformation into a year-round cultural centre. An advisory committee that includes Suhasini Maniratnam and Revathi has helped design the programming.

The opening line-up features Motta Maadi Music on February 7 and a Bharatanatyam-based tribute, ‘Paatum Bharatamum’, by Kalaimani Radhika Shurajit on February 8. Officials say the hall will be open for public bookings and host diverse events throughout the year, offering a platform for emerging artistes while reconnecting the city with its rich cultural heritage.
