Ambattur Thangal Lake Boating Park Opens in Chennai, Becomes Popular Recreation Spot

The boating facility set up at Ambattur Thangal Lake Park has become an attractive recreation destination for the public, according to the Greater Chennai Corporation.

The boating facility, constructed at a cost of ₹60 lakh, was inaugurated for public use on March 4 by M. K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The park is located in Ward 83 of the Ambattur Zone on Madanankuppam Main Road, Kallikuppam area.

Lake Area and Water Capacity

The Thangal Lake park is spread over 64,749 square metres, with the lake itself covering 47,434 square metres and having a depth of 15 feet. The lake has a water storage capacity of 21,68,68,248 litres, making it an important urban water body in the area.

Facilities Developed in the Park

The project includes several facilities designed to enhance public recreation and environmental value:

- 1168 metres compound wall around the lake

- 3582 sq. metres walkway

- 8853 sq. metres green landscape area

- 4376 sq. ft open play and activity area

- 490 sq. metres women’s fitness and yoga area

- Dedicated reading space for visitors

Boating and Safety Facilities

The boating complex at the lake includes:

- 2 boating docks

- 4 pedal boats

- 2 rescue boats

- 40 life jackets

- 28 park tables for visitors

Other infrastructure includes 10 toilets for men and women, 7 water inlet pipes, 2 water outlet pipes, two high-mast lights (12 m and 16 m height), and 37 street lights to improve safety and accessibility.

According to the Greater Chennai Corporation, the boating facility at Ambattur Thangal Lake Park has quickly become one of the best recreational spaces for residents, offering a relaxing environment with greenery, walking areas, and boating activities.
