Chennai Rains: 100-Year-Old Peepal Tree Uprooted Near Teynampet

As summer rain activity intensifies across Tamil Nadu, residents of Chennai have been experiencing early morning showers accompanied by strong winds over the past two days, bringing temporary relief from the scorching heat.

In a dramatic incident reported during the early hours today, a century-old peepal tree located inside the Alayamman Temple premises near Teynampet Signal was uprooted due to heavy winds and fell onto the road.

Officials from the electricity board, police department, and Greater Chennai Corporation rushed to the spot and are currently involved in clearing the fallen tree and restoring normal traffic movement.

The massive tree reportedly fell over a section of the temple wall and also damaged a nearby streetlight. Fortunately, no pedestrians or vehicles were near the area at the time of the incident, helping avoid a major mishap.

The incident highlights the impact of sudden weather changes and gusty winds currently affecting several parts of Chennai amid the ongoing summer rain spell.
