The Navratri festival has now come to an end and those persons who have gone to their hometowns are returning back to Chennai. This has now led to heavy traffic congestion along the 50km stretch from Madurantakam and Perungalathur in Chennai. The Grand Southern Trunk road or GST road was brimming with vehicles.

It was brought to light by satellite data from Google Maps that a 27km 4-lane stretch from Madurantakam to Paranur near Chengalpet was choked with traffic. Point is that the vehicles crawled in bumper-to-bumper traffic and it took more than one hour to cover the distance.

The presence of 2 lane narrow roads has led to bottlenecks in Pazhamathur and Mamandur. Till the Singaperumal Koil junction, a huge bottleneck of 3km was also observed.

After Vandalur junction, the commuters going to Poonamallee breathed a little easier after taking the left at ORR. It must be noted that the persons heading towards Chennai faced more traffic in Kilambakkam.

The presence of inundation made the situation more worsen and this was at the Kilambakkam stretch of 2km. The inundation here was due to the heavy rains that lashed Chennai and its neighbourhood areas. The commuters found it difficult to move. Bottleneck was also due to the flyover works at Perungalathur.
