Orange Alert Issued for Nilgiris, Coimbatore and Kanyakumari; Very Heavy Rain Likely Tomorrow

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has issued an Orange Alert for Nilgiris, Coimbatore, and Kanyakumari districts for tomorrow, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall due to the influence of the Southwest Monsoon, which has already set in over Kerala.

According to the weather department, these three districts are likely to experience intense rainfall, and residents have been advised to remain cautious and follow official weather advisories. The Orange Alert signifies a high-risk weather situation and calls for preparedness to deal with potential disruptions caused by heavy rain.

The weather office has also forecast heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in several other districts of Tamil Nadu, including Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Erode, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, and Salem.

In addition, Chennai, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Ranipet, and Chengalpattu are likely to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places tomorrow.

The weather department has further stated that Puducherry and Karaikal may witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph, along with heavy rainfall.

Authorities have advised the public, especially those living in low-lying and hilly areas, to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the state braces for widespread rainfall activity over the coming days.
