The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Metro Water) has floated tenders to upgrade the underground sewer network in Adyar, Teynampet and Kodambakkam zones at an estimated cost of ₹800 crore. The project aims to replace ageing pipelines, reduce sewer blockages and prevent road cave-ins.
The works will include installing new CI and DI pipelines, upgrading sewage pumping stations and setting up odour control and real-time monitoring systems. The project, funded by the Asian Development Bank, will begin in the Nesapakkam STP catchment area and is expected to be completed within two years.
