Chennai Flight Ticket Prices Triple Ahead of School Reopening

Flight ticket prices to Chennai have witnessed a sharp surge ahead of school reopening as people who travelled to their hometowns during the holidays are returning back to the city in large numbers.

Due to the sudden increase in passenger demand, airfares from major cities including Madurai, Thoothukudi, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore, Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi to Chennai have increased nearly three times compared to normal days.

According to airline booking data, the airfare from Madurai to Chennai, which usually costs around ₹5,800, has now surged to ₹17,303.

Similarly, flight ticket prices from Thoothukudi to Chennai have increased from the regular ₹6,600 to ₹17,272.

Passengers travelling from Tiruchirappalli to Chennai are also facing higher fares, with ticket prices rising from around ₹4,500 to ₹14,404.

Airfares on the Coimbatore-Chennai route have jumped from ₹4,744 to ₹16,504 due to heavy booking demand.

Meanwhile, flight ticket prices from Thiruvananthapuram to Chennai have increased from ₹5,700 to ₹13,516.

Travel industry experts say the sudden spike in airfare is mainly due to the reopening of schools and colleges, IT employees returning to work and the end of the extended holiday season. Last-minute bookings and limited seat availability have also contributed to the sharp increase in domestic flight fares.

Passengers are advised to book tickets in advance to avoid paying extremely high airfare prices during peak travel periods.
