In a significant step toward strengthening preventive healthcare for India’s ageing population. Geri Care, India’s pioneer in integrated eldercare, today announced the launch of ‘India’s first dedicated Geriatric Vaccination Centre’, exclusively for senior citizens. The vaccination centre is now operational at Geri Care’s facilities in T. Nagar, Adambakkam and Adyar in Chennai as well as in all of its clinics and Skilled Nursing Facilities.

The centre was inaugurated by octogenarian Shri Prof. P.S. Chandramouli in the presence of Dr. Lakshmipathy Ramesh, Founder and Managing Director, Geri Care, along with leading clinicians, healthcare professionals and members of the senior community.

India is undergoing a rapid demographic shift, with its elderly population projected to grow from nearly 180 million today to over 350 million by 2050. Yet, adult vaccination remains significantly underutilised, with coverage estimated at below 5%, and healthcare systems largely focused on paediatric immunisation.

Dr. Lakshmipathy Ramesh, Founder & Managing Director, Geri Care said, “Preventive healthcare for seniors remains one of the most under-addressed gaps in India. While childhood immunisation has seen strong progress, adult vaccination, especially among older adults, continues to be neglected. This centre is designed to bridge that gap by offering structured, accessible and clinically guided immunisation tailored to the needs of seniors.”

Older adults in India face a higher burden of vaccine-preventable diseases. Influenza and pneumococcal infections contribute significantly to hospitalisations and mortality, particularly among those with comorbidities such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and chronic respiratory conditions. Shingles, increasingly common among seniors, can be debilitating, with pain that can persist long after infection, making vaccination critical for prevention. Evidence indicates that timely vaccination can reduce hospitalisations from such infections by up to 40–60%, while also lowering mortality risk.

Geri Care’s Geriatric Vaccination Centre will offer targeted vaccination protocols for seniors, especially those with underlying conditions including diabetes, heart disease, chronic lung and liver disorders, kidney disease, cancer and other immunocompromised states. This launch marks a significant step in advancing geriatric-focused preventive care in India, with the potential to improve quality of life for seniors while reducing avoidable healthcare burden for senior citizens.

Elderly individuals can call 99444 59444 to schedule their vaccination appointments at Geri Care. The organisation also offers doorstep vaccination services for groups of seniors in residential communities, at no additional cost.
