Tamil Nadu Weather Update: 12 Locations Cross 100°F; Heavy Rain Likely in Hill Districts

Tamil Nadu witnessed intense summer heat on Sunday, with temperatures crossing the 100°F mark in 12 locations across the state. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), heavy rainfall is likely in the hill regions of 10 districts, including Nilgiris and Theni, over the next two days.

Cuddalore recorded the highest temperature at 105.2°F, followed by Chennai Meenambakkam (104.7°F), Tondi (103.2°F), Nungambakkam (103°F) and Vellore (102.7°F). Other locations that crossed 100°F include Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Parangipettai, Tiruchy, Madurai City, Tiruttani and Madurai Airport.

Meanwhile, rainfall was reported in a few parts of the state, with Chinnakallar in Coimbatore district recording 61 mm of rain, the highest in Tamil Nadu.

The weather department has forecast heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in the hill regions of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Salem, Erode and Kanniyakumari districts today. Similar conditions are expected to continue on Tuesday in several of these areas.

Chennai is expected to witness partly cloudy skies with chances of light rain and thunderstorms in a few areas. The city`s maximum temperature is likely to remain around 39°C to 40°C, while the minimum temperature may hover around 29°C to 30°C.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into parts of the south Tamil Nadu coast, offshore north Tamil Nadu waters, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining sea areas due to strong winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph.
