This Women’s Day month, Chennai audience are in for an evening of witty humour and razor-sharp storytelling as internationally acclaimed comedian Sharul Channa brings her much-anticipated India tour to the city.

Recognised among Asia’s Top 10 comedians and Singapore’s only full-time female stand-up comedian, Sharul will perform her latest show, “Saree, These Are Just Jokes” in Chennai on 14th  March at Punch, as part of her eight-city India tour.

The show promises a lively evening of bold comedy, cultural observations, and relatable storytelling that reflects Sharul’s unique perspective as an Indian-origin comedian who has built her career in Singapore. Known for her fearless takes on identity, relationships, gender expectations, and everyday social contradictions, Sharul’s comedy blends personal experience with sharp insight and unapologetic honesty.

With over 15 years in stand-up comedy, Sharul has emerged as one of Asia’s most distinctive comedic voices. Her current tour also marks a major milestone - she becomes the first Singapore-based Indian comedian to undertake an extensive eight-city tour across India, reflecting her growing cross-border influence and the expanding cultural exchange between India and Singapore.

In an industry that continues to be largely male-dominated, Sharul has consistently broken stereotypes and carved her own space on global stages. Her performances are known not just for their humour but also for their cultural commentary - drawing from life between India and Singapore and the realities of navigating multiple identities in today’s world.

Speaking about performing in India, Sharul Channa says, “This India tour feels incredibly special because I’m coming home not just as a comedian, but as a woman who has built her voice across cultures. Stand-up comedy is still a male-dominated space, and I’ve had to constantly challenge what people think a comedian should look like, sound like, or talk about.

As someone who lives between India and Singapore, I’ve learned that humour travels across borders, but authenticity is universal. This Women’s Day month, I hope audiences see that taking up space - loudly, unapologetically - is not just powerful, it’s necessary.”

For this India tour, Sharul has collaborated with women-led saree brand Suta, a partnership that perfectly reflects her signature approach to breaking stereotypes and redefining how tradition and comedy can co-exist.

The show features all-new material exploring multicultural identity, modern relationships, societal expectations, and the everyday absurdities women navigate - delivered with Sharul’s trademark wit and energetic stage presence.

With strong audience interest across cities, comedy lovers in Chennai are encouraged to book early and not miss the chance to watch one of Asia&rsqsquo;s most exciting stand-up voices live.
