Smart card distribution to commence earlier

Amidst cancellation of R.K. Nagar by-election, works to distribute smart cards to all beneficiaries of public distribution system is likely to begin. The civil supplies department is gearing up to begin the work.
According to the original plan, the works to distribute smart cards was likely to begin on 17th of April following completion of poll process.
On this basis, works to print cards district wise had begun. Chennai was scheduled to get covered in the later days. However, following cancellation of by-election, the model code is lifted and officials will also cover Chennai city, probably during early days of next week, said an official.
