In the world-famous Tirupathi Elumalaiyan Temple, several festivals are celebrated during every year. One of the most important festivals is the Theppam Festival.

This year’s (2017) Theppam festival is scheduled to commence on 8th March and celebrated till 12th March for a period of 5 days.

On the 1st Day of the Theppam Festival scheduled on 8th March, the deities of Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and Goddess Seetha will be taken to the Pushkarani and will be set up on the specially decorated Theppam Chariot and taken on a  3-round procession around the pond and offer Darshan for the devotees.

On the 2nd day of 9th March, the deities of Lord Krishna and Goddess Rukamani will be carried to the Pushkarani and taken on a 3-round procession offering Darshan to the devotees.

On the 3rd day of 10th March, the festival deities of Lord Malayappa Sami along with His Consorts Goddesses Sridevi and Bhoodevi will be carried to the Theppam and taken on a 5-round procession and offer Darshan to the devotees.

It is a tradition in the famous Tirupathi Temple that on every Full Moon Day (Pournami in Tamil), the deity of Lord Malayappa Swami will be carried on the special carriage of Golden Garuda and taken on a procession around the 4 corridor streets of the temple offering Darshan to the thousands of devotees.

Accordingly, as the Theppam Festival is scheduled from 8th March in the Tirupathi Temple, this tradition of the Procession of the Lord on the special carriage of Golden Garuda on the Full Moon Day stands canceled. This is as per the press information released by TTD (Thirumalai Tirupathi Devasthanam Board).
