Vandalur Zoo Closed on April 22 for Election Awareness Activities
The Arignar Anna Zoological Park, popularly known as Vandalur Zoo, will remain closed on April 22 in observance of Election Awareness Day, according to an official announcement by the zoo administration.
The temporary closure is part of initiatives to promote voter awareness ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Visitors are advised to plan their trips accordingly, as the zoo will not be open to the public on that day.
In addition to this announcement, the zoo administration also shared updates on a recent animal exchange program conducted under wildlife conservation efforts.
As part of the exchange, a female Asian wild ass has been brought to Chennai from a zoological park in Gujarat to pair with an existing male at the zoo. This move aims to support breeding and conservation of the species.
Meanwhile, the Chennai zoo has sent several animals to the Gujarat facility, including one male and two female white peacocks, pairs of blackbucks, and two yellow anacondas.
Officials stated that such exchanges help maintain genetic diversity and improve animal welfare across zoological parks in India.
The initiative highlights ongoing conservation efforts while also aligning with public awareness campaigns during the election period.
