Vaikasi Visakam festival celebrations in Lord Murugar temples!!
It is not always that lakhs of devotees come together to take holy dip in the sea. This happened now in the Tiruchendur Lord Subramanya Swamy Temple on the occasion of vaikasi visakam festival. In Palani, a chariot procession was held and it grabbed many eyeballs.
It is noteworthy that the birth star festival of Tamizh Kadavul Lord Murugar began as a spring festival on 31st of May and went on for 10 days.
Yesterday was the 10th day and the temple was opened at 1am on the occasion of the vaikasi vishakha festival. At 1:30am, viswaroopa darshan took place. At 6am, udhayamarthanda abhishegam was held and at 10am utchikala abhishegam and aaradhanai was held. After that, swami Jayanthinathar entered the shanmugha vilasa mandapam from the temple.
In the evening special abhishekam and deeparadhana were performed on the Lord. After this, Swamy was carried around the temple 11 times. This was followed by the main event of providing sabha vimochanam or redemption to munikumars. Mahadeeparadhana was performed later and the important festival that was being organised for the last 10 days came to an end with the presence of Swami Jayanthi Nathar, Goddess Valli and Goddess Deivanai.
It is known that for the last few days many devotees from all over have been coming to Tiruchendur by walking after observing fast etc. As a result, the temple premises were full of devotees. The devotees from the early morning itself took holy dip in the sea near the temple. Point to be noted is that the devotees paid their nerthikadan or debt of promise by taking kavadi, milk pots on their heads etc.
In Palani Lord Dandayudhapani Swamy temple, vaikasi vishakha festival began with flag hoisting function at the Periyanayagi Amman temple in Palani. Yesterday, the main festival vaikasi vishakha was held here with a therottam or car festival in the evening. On the occasion of the festival, 16 types of abhishekam and decoration were performed on the valli-deivanai sametha muthukumaraswamy.
At 4:30 pm in the evening, a chariot procession took place and the Lord was decorated with flowers and ornaments etc. Before this function, a small chariot procession of Lord Vinayagar and Lord Veerabaagu etc took place here. Many devotees gathered to witness these processions.
