The famous, grand, and traditional annual celebration of the Arupathumoovar festival is being celebrated today (Sunday, 9th April).
The traditional annual celebrations are for 10 days. The festival is so hugely popular that thousands of devotees from other districts and other states also come to Chennai to participate and have darshan.
The famous 10-days Panguni Uthiram festival commenced at Mylapore Lord Kapaleeswarar temple on 2nd April.
On the 2nd day of the festival Surya prabhai and Chandra prabhai darshan was organised. On the 3rd day, Adhikara Nandhi Sevai was performed.
The main event of the festival, the grand chariot procession was performed yesterday (Saturday, 8th April). On this day, special abhishekham and adornment were performed on the deities of Lord Kapaleeswarar and his consort Karpagambal. Lord Kapaleeswarar offered darshan for the devotees along with his consort Karpagambal. The chariot ropes were drawn by the devotees at 6.15 AM.
The chariot procession, along with Panchamurthis, went along the 4 main corridors of the temple and came to rest at the end of the procession at 11.30 AM.
Subsequently, thousands of devotees had the Darshan of the Lord and offered their prayers. The main deity was shifted from the chariot to the sanctum sanctorum of the temple yesterday night. Following this, the Ainthirumeni festival was performed.
The most important and celebrated event of Arupathumoovar festival is being organised today.
