The lent season (40 days fasting) begins on Ash Wednesday (tomorrow). Rituals will take place in all the churches tomorrow. Christians celebrate the Easter day on the occasion of Lord Jesus Christ resurrection. The 40 days before Easter are known as Lent season. The first day of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday.
During the Lent, majority of the Christians abstain from eating meat. They will be involved in charitable acts. There will be no celebrations or marriages in Christian homes during these 40 days. Every Friday, the Way of the Cross will be held. The Stations of the Cross are representations of the path Jesus bore on his way to the crucifixion. During the lent season all the parishioners of a church will go on a pilgrimage as one family.
This year, Easter festival is celebrated on 16th April. Hence 40 days lent will be observed before the festival. In that way Christians will begin the 40 days fasting from tomorrow (Ash Wednesday). Holy masses and adoration will be held in all the churches.
