Toll charges across Tamil Nadu have been increased by 5% to 7%, effective from midnight, bringing higher travel costs for motorists and transport operators across the state.

The toll plazas function under the control of the National Highways Authority of India, which revises toll rates annually based on inflation, maintenance costs, and traffic usage.

Toll Hike Details

Out of 77 toll plazas in Tamil Nadu, 60 toll gates have implemented the revised charges.

Cars, Jeeps, Vans: Toll increased by ₹10 to ₹40
Trucks & Buses: Toll increased by ₹50 to ₹200
Monthly Pass: Increased up to ₹350
Annual Pass: Revised to ₹3,075

Major Toll Plazas Affected

The revised toll charges apply to several important toll plazas across key national highways, including Morattandi, Pallikonda, Krishnagiri, Paranur, Athur (Tindivanam), Vanagaram, Sriperumbudur, Kaniyur, Vallam, Madukkarai, Nanguneri, Surapattu, Nallur, Vagaikulam, Kappalur, Etturvattam, Pongalur, Valavanthankottai, Kodikottai, Lembalakudi, and many more.

These toll plazas are located along high-traffic corridors connecting major cities and industrial hubs, making the hike significant for daily commuters and long-distance travelers.

Reason Behind Toll Fee Increase

The toll revision follows the standard annual adjustment policy and is influenced by:

- Rising inflation
- Highway maintenance and operational costs
- Increase in vehicle traffic
- Concession agreements signed in 1992 and 2008

Generally, toll fees are increased between 5% and 10% every year.
