Low Voter Turnout in Chennai Central Constituency Amidst State Elections

Polling in Chennai Central, one of Chennai`s three Lok Sabha constituencies, witnessed the lowest voter turnout in the state elections held on Friday. According to Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo, the voter turnout in Chennai Central stood at 24.09 percent at 11 am, 32.31 percent at 1 pm, and 41.47 percent at 3 pm.

Providing an overview of the state`s voting status, Sahoo informed reporters that the overall voter turnout in the state reached 51.41 percent by 3 pm. Dharmapuri recorded the highest turnout in the state at 57.86 percent, followed by Namakkal at 57.67 percent and Kallakurichi at 57.34 percent.

However, eight constituencies in Tamil Nadu, out of the total 39, reported a turnout below 50 percent by 3 pm. Among these, the three constituencies in Chennai - Chennai North, Chennai South, and Chennai Central - recorded 44.84 percent, 42.10 percent, and 41.47 percent respectively. The other constituencies with low turnout include Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Tirunelveli, Madurai, and Sriperumbudur.
