Chennai Vote Counting Centres Under Tight Security Ahead of TN Elections 2026

Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, extensive preparatory and security arrangements have been put in place at vote counting centres across Chennai. Senior officials conducted inspections to ensure that all facilities are ready for a smooth and transparent counting process.

The inspection was carried out by the Chennai District Election Officer and Greater Chennai Police Commissioner at key centres including Queen Mary`s College, Loyola College, and Anna University.

EVMs Stored with Full Security

Following the completion of polling on April 23, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from 16 assembly constituencies in Chennai district have been securely stored in strong rooms at three locations:

5 constituencies at Queen Mary’s College
6 constituencies at Loyola College
5 constituencies at Anna University

All EVMs have been sealed in the presence of election officials, candidates, and their agents to ensure transparency.

Advanced Surveillance Measures

To strengthen monitoring, over 320 CCTV cameras have been installed outside the strong rooms. These cameras provide continuous surveillance to prevent any unauthorized access.

Three-Layer Security System

Authorities have deployed a multi-tier security system at all counting centres:

First layer: Central paramilitary forces
Second layer: Tamil Nadu Special Police
Third layer: Armed reserve and local law & order police

A total of 1,160 security personnel have been assigned in round-the-clock shifts to maintain strict vigilance.

Officials Conduct Inspection

During the inspection, officials reviewed constituency-wise arrangements, security deployment, and overall preparedness. Senior police officers and election officials were present to ensure all protocols are being followed without any lapses.
