Prospects for rain today (8th September): details!

While it has been persistent widespread rain throughout Tamil Nadu over the last few days, the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed us that there are prospects for heavy rains today (Thursday, 8th September) in 18 districts.

In a notification released by the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre in this regard, it is mentioned:

"There are prospects for widespread mild to medium rain with lightning and thunder today (Thursday, 8th September) in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikkal due to the cyclonic format prevailing in the upper layers of the atmosphere over North Tamil Nadu.

There are prospects for heavy rain today (Thursday, 8th September) in 1 or 2 places in Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Kallakkurichi, Thiruvannamalai  Vellore, Ranippettai, Thirupathur, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, and Villupuram.

As regards Chennai Metro City, the sky will remain somewhat cloudy in the next 48 hours. There are prospects for mild to medium rain in a few parts of the city. The maximum temperature will be 30-31 Degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be 26-27 Degrees Celsius.

As for the maximum rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours in cm: Omalur – 10, Sholingur – 8, Villupuram, Vadappudhuppattu, Yercaud, Harrison Estate, and Cherumulli – 7 each.

For fishermen:

There may be high-speed winds blowing across at 40 to 50 kmph in the Lakhdiv parts, Kerala coastal area, and the adjacent southeast Arabian Sea, South Bay of Bengal, Tamil Nadu coastal area, Bay of Mannar and the AdjacentKanyakumari Ocean. As such, fishermen are cautioned NOT to venture into the sea for fishing in these areas!
