Information regarding the movement of SW monsoon

Posted on: 21/May/2021 9:26:51 AM
It has been predicted by IMD that the south west monsoon or SW monsoon is likely to advance into Andaman Sea and adjoining SE Bay of Bengal on 21st of May 2021. This would be due to favourable meteorological conditions.

Around 22nd of May, a low pressure area is likely to form over north Andaman Sea and adjoining east central Bay of Bengal and by 24th May it would intensify into a cyclonic storm. It has been revealed that this cyclonic storm would likely to move north westwards and it would reach North Bay of Bengal near Odisha-West Bengal coast around 26th morning.

Till 23rd May, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy rains is likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Thereafter, reduction in the intensity would be there. It is now said that this is one of the indications that monsoons would soon hit the mainland. It must be remembered that last week IMD pointed out that monsoon was likely to make an onset over Kerala on 31st May. Point to be noted is that this development also marks the beginning of the 4 month rainfall season. As per IMD, the monsoons would be normal this year.
