Prospects of rainfall up to 20 cm today (1st November)

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of a heavy downpour with a rainfall up to 20 cm in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu.

The Assistant Director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, Balachandran, explained in this regard that a low-pressure zone is prevailing in the atmosphere over the southwest and central west areas of the Bay of Bengal. Further, there is a cyclonic format also developed in the same region in the upper layers of the atmosphere. So, today (Thursday, 1st November) is the onset of the northeast monsoon rainy season.

There are prospects of medium rain in most areas in Tamil Nadu today (1st November). There are prospects of intermittent rain in the Chennai Metro City. There may be heavy rains in some parts of the city.

However, in a warning issued by the Chennai Meteorological Centre, it is informed that there would be widespread rains in Tamil Nadu and there are prospects of heavy downpour leading to a rainfall of up to 20cm with an ‘orange alert’ issued.

IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) has mentioned that the climate is conducive today (Thursday, 1st November) for the onset of the northeast monsoon rainy season.

In a forecast by the private weather agencies, it is informed that there would be widespread rains in Tamil Nadu for the next 3 days until 3rd November.
