For the first time, Asia Pacific Gastroesophageal Cancer Congress to take place in Chennai

One type of cancer that is common now in the state of TN is gastroesophageal cancer. TN ranks second in this type of cancer in India and Mizoram is first. Persons affected with this cancer show symptom like pain in swallowing, vomiting, unexplained weight loss, frequent choking on food etc.

People do not seek diagnosis early and they visit the doctors only when cancer has reached the advanced stage. This was according to Dr Chandramohan, president of 8th Asia Pacific Gastroesophageal Cancer Congress. He explained how in India the survival rates of a person affected with this cancer were just 27 percent. In those countries where there was regular screening, the survival rates were 60 percent. The average time from the first symptom to the consulting a doctor was around 4 months.

From 6th to 8th February 2020, Asia Pacific Gastroesophageal Cancer Congress would take place at Sri Ramachandra Institute for Higher Education and Research, Chennai. It would be held in 2 sessions and cancer survivors and suicide survivors would be sharing their experiences. EsoIndia would be one of the organizers of this upcoming eventz

It is for the first time the conference would take place in India and the parents of the medical students would be allowed to participate in the session. By interacting with the experts, the students would know about the opportunities to study abroad. The event would have as many as 13 international experts from as many as 8 countries and over 350 persons have registered for this upcoming event in Chennai.

The event would have 2 orations named after prof N, Rangabashyam and Dr K.S. Krishnagopal. It was revealed by Mr K. Balaji Singh, dean of students at SRIHER and vice-chairman of the conference that 100 students belonging to SRIHER were involved in research activities regarding gastrointestinal diseases.
