Parents would find it tough to see their young kids wear eyeglasses or spectacles or specs for myopia!!

The shocking news is that in the next 25 years, 48 percent of the children in India are likely to develop myopia or nearsightedness.

Max Vision eye hospital in Chennai recently organised a near sightedness screening camp for the school students at Bishop Carey Anglo Indian School in Chennai. Information is that about 250 students from several schools in the city took part in this screening camp. These students underwent vision screening, eye pressure testing etc.

It was explained by a senior ophthalmologist from Max Vision Hospital, Dr. Dinesh Balakrishnan that in India 21.5 percent children belonging to the urban areas were nearsighted. This was confirmed by a study made in 2019. He added that due to increased computer and smartphone use plus due to lack of outdoor play and genetic predisposition etc the rate has been increasing. He warned that if this continues 48.14 percent of the kids would be affected with myopia by the end of 2025. Truth is that by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and by regularly monitoring nearsightedness issues could be avoided in the children.
