Blazing heat in Chennai - First hot day of 2024 recorded in Meenambakkam in Chennai!!
The month of May has started in a sensational manner now!!
It is well known to us that in the month of May the temperatures would shoot up to above 40 degrees Celsius in Chennai. On Wednesday, 1st of May, Meenambakkam in Chennai recorded its first hot day in 2024. The mercury levels went up to 40.7 degrees yesterday. This made lives very difficult for the residents.
Not only the Meenambakkam residents suffered due to the blazing heat but those living in other parts of Chennai also. In Nungambakkam, a major locality in south Chennai, temperature went up to 39 degrees yesterday. It was then brought to light by weather blogger Mr. K. Srikanth that monthly temperature in Chennai was higher in April 2024 when compared to that in April 2023. He mentioned that the summer season that comes right after El Nino would be very harsh.
He concluded that after 2016 (where summer season was harsh) 2024 would also follow a similar pattern of brutal heat as 2023 was a strong El Nino year. It is worthy to note that April has ended on a dry note as weather stations in the north interior TN experienced recorded breaking temperatures.
