Chennai Metro Awaits Launch Date for Poonamallee - Vadapalani Route

The delay in launching Chennai Metro Rail services on the Poonamallee–Vadapalani corridor under Phase 2 has sparked disappointment among commuters eagerly awaiting improved connectivity in western Chennai.

Passengers have urged the Union Government to announce an inauguration date for the much-anticipated metro route, which is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion on key city roads.

Sources indicate that 20 driverless metro trains are fully ready for operation on the new corridor. However, commercial services are yet to commence as the project awaits official approval and inauguration.

The Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch is one of the most important sections of Chennai Metro Phase 2 and is expected to provide faster, safer, and more efficient public transportation for thousands of daily commuters.

Once operational, the corridor will enhance connectivity between major residential, commercial, and educational hubs, offering a major boost to Chennai`s urban transport network.
