Chennai Metro Conducts Midnight Mock Drill at Koyambedu to Test Emergency Preparedness
Chennai Metro Rail Limited conducted a surprise midnight mock drill at Koyambedu Metro Station to strengthen emergency preparedness, especially for derailment scenarios.
The exercise simulated a train derailment, prompting an alert to Fire and Rescue Services, who rushed to the spot within minutes and coordinated with metro staff to access the station.
Though the situation initially caused concern among the public, officials later confirmed it was a planned safety drill to evaluate response time and crisis management systems.
The drill comes after a 2024 derailment incident, following which CMRL has intensified safety measures, including inspections, infrastructure improvements, and staff training.
Authorities stated that such exercises are crucial to ensure passenger safety, quick emergency response, and efficient coordination during real-time incidents.
