Tamil Nadu to Conduct Pulse Polio Immunisation Drive on June 28; 52.91 Lakh Children to Be Vaccinated

The Tamil Nadu Health Department will conduct the National Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign across the State on June 28, with arrangements in place to administer the oral polio vaccine to 52.91 lakh children below the age of five.

According to an official release, the vaccination drive will be carried out through 43,051 immunisation centres established across Tamil Nadu. Vaccination booths will operate from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at government primary health centres, government hospitals, anganwadi centres, schools, and other public locations.

Health officials have urged parents to ensure that all children below five years of age receive the oral polio vaccine during the campaign, even if they have already been vaccinated under the routine immunisation programme.

To ensure that travelling children are not missed, temporary transit vaccination booths will be set up at bus stands, railway stations, airports, toll plazas, and check-posts. While vaccination will be conducted at all regular centres on June 28, the transit booths will continue to function on June 29 and June 30.

The campaign will also cover children of migrant workers residing in Tamil Nadu. In addition, mobile medical teams have been deployed to reach children living in remote and hilly regions, ensuring that no eligible child is left out.

More than two lakh health workers, anganwadi staff, teachers, and volunteers have been mobilised to successfully implement the statewide immunisation campaign.

The Health Department has appealed to parents and guardians to bring all children under five years of age to the nearest vaccination centre and help keep Tamil Nadu polio-free.
