Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Announces ₹75,000 Crop Loan Waiver for 14.43 Lakh Farmers; ₹5,932 Crore Relief Approved

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has announced a major relief measure, waiving crop loans up to ₹75,000 taken through cooperative banks. The move offers 100% loan waiver for small, marginal, and other eligible farmers.

Earlier, on 25 May 2026, the government had announced a similar waiver for crop loans up to ₹50,000 for small and marginal farmers. However, following requests from various farmer groups, the decision was reviewed and expanded.

A high-level review meeting was held at the Secretariat on 15 June, where officials from the Agriculture, Cooperation, Finance, Planning, and Development departments discussed the proposal under the Chief Minister’s leadership.

Considering the Reserve Bank of India guidelines issued on 28 November 2025 regarding loan waiver schemes, along with the state’s current financial situation, the government has decided to extend the benefit further.

As per the latest order, crop loans taken between 1 May 2025 and 28 February 2026 will be covered under the waiver. In total, around 14.43 Lakh farmers are expected to benefit, with an estimated relief of nearly ₹6,000 crore.
