India’s Housing Market Stays Strong in Early 2026; Chennai Sees Impressive Growth

India’s housing market got off to a solid start in 2026, with strong homebuyer demand continuing across the country’s biggest cities. According to a report by PropTiger, more than 93,000 new homes were launched and nearly 96,000 units were sold during the first quarter of the year.

Among the top-performing cities, Chennai stood out with a strong comeback. The city recorded 6,841 home sales, showing a 43.3% jump compared to the same period last year. The rise has been driven by steady buyer interest, better inventory movement, and continued growth in residential demand across key areas.

Bengaluru and Hyderabad also had a strong quarter, with both cities seeing healthy sales growth. Bengaluru remained one of the biggest contributors, while Hyderabad continued to attract buyers with consistent demand.

Property prices also continued to rise across major cities, showing that the market remains active and confident. Experts say improved infrastructure, expanding residential corridors, and positive buyer sentiment are helping keep the momentum going.

With several large infrastructure projects moving forward, Chennai is expected to remain one of the key real estate growth markets in 2026, with demand likely to stay strong in the months ahead.
