The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall in South Tamil Nadu and Western Ghats districts until March 1, due to atmospheric changes over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea.

Low Pressure System Over Bay of Bengal

A deep depression that prevailed over the southwest Bay of Bengal has now weakened into a low-pressure area. It remains over the southwest and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and is expected to move northeastwards while gradually weakening further.

At the same time, an upper air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea, near the south Kerala coast, is influencing rainfall activity across southern parts of Tamil Nadu.

Districts Likely to Receive Rain

From February 24 to March 1, isolated to moderate rainfall is expected in:

- Tenkasi

- Kanniyakumari

- Thoothukudi

- Tirunelveli

- Western Ghats districts

- Adjoining interior regions

Hilly areas may experience intermittent showers during this period.

Fishermen Warning Issued

The IMD has issued a warning for fishermen as squally winds up to 60 kmph are likely over:

- Northern parts of southeast Bay of Bengal

- Southwest, west-central, and central-east Bay of Bengal

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea in these regions until weather conditions improve.
