Chennai Police Recover ₹1.27 Crore from Cyber Fraud in September

The Greater Chennai Police’s Cyber Crime Division has successfully recovered and returned ₹1.27 crore to victims of cyber fraud in September 2025. With this, the total restitution for the first nine months of the year has reached ₹21.70 crore.

In September alone, the cybercrime wing received 205 complaints through the helpline number 1930 and direct walk-ins, taking action in 121 cases. Under the supervision of Zonal Joint Commissioners and the Central Crime Branch (CCB), officers tracked fraudulent transactions, froze suspect bank accounts, and recovered stolen funds.

The zone-wise recoveries include ₹56.12 lakh (City Headquarters), ₹27.24 lakh (North Zone), ₹21.13 lakh (West Zone), ₹12.66 lakh (South Zone), and ₹10.32 lakh (East Zone).

Apart from restitution, police have also frozen over ₹40 crore linked to cybercriminals’ accounts. Commissioner A Arun urged the public to stay alert and avoid transferring money to unknown bank accounts.
