The Chennai Metro Rail Limited has introduced the ‘Singara Chennai Card’ for metro passengers from today, replacing the existing travel cards. As per the new system, old metro cards will no longer be valid for recharge.

Passengers can transfer the remaining balance from their old cards to the Singara Chennai Card using the official Chennai Metro mobile application, ensuring a smooth transition.

The Singara Chennai Card has been introduced to provide a unified and seamless travel experience, in line with central government guidelines for integrated public transport systems across India.

Chennai Metro currently operates across two corridors covering around 54 km, connecting major routes including Airport to Wimco Nagar and St. Thomas Mount to Central. On average, nearly 3 lakh passengers use metro services daily.

To enhance passenger convenience, Chennai Metro has already implemented several digital and cashless payment options, including mobile app ticket booking, QR code tickets via WhatsApp, and QR-based ticketing at stations. Payments through credit and debit cards are also widely supported.

Passengers using travel cards continue to benefit from discounts of 10% to 20%, while a special ₹100 daily pass allows unlimited travel across the network.

Meanwhile, Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro project is progressing across three corridors and is expected to be completed by 2028, further expanding connectivity across the city.

The metro administration has advised all passengers to switch to the Singara Chennai Card to continue hassle-free travel and access future integrated transport benefits.
